Highway 12: All American Road


One of America’s renowned highways is the Highway 12 which gained title as All American Road in 2002. Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon are two National Parks found at each end of the highway with numerous wonderful spots in between.

The Highway 12 passes in the course of Grand staircase Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park and above Boulder Mountain situated in the Dixie National Forest ending at the entry way to Capitol Reef National Park.

Tropic which is found at the east abreast of Bryce Canyon is a small community known for being rich in pioneer heritage.

The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument’s northern boundary is close to the town of Cannonville. Visitors can experience how flourishing the past and present local culture of the town is. From south of Cannonville is a 7-mile paved road which heads to the Kodachrome Basin State Park.

Petrified Forest Sate Park is one mile west from the town of Escalante. This town serves as the boundary of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monumnet. The journey continues as travelers will get to witness miles of colorful slickrock and great panoramic views through the Escalante canyons. Calf Creek Campground is another enthralling venue after crossing the Escalante River where travelers can spend picnic. From this point, a round trip trail of six mile leads tourists to Lower Calf Creek Falls.

Highway 12 entwines and turns through the Hogsback approaching the town of Boulder. This is the section of the road where cliffs sharply fall into constricted canyons on equal regions of the highway. Relics of prehistoric Indian Vilage and a museum is found at Anasazi State Park in Boulder.

A side street travel subsequent the peak of Boulder Mountain is the astonishing forested path where you get to see colorful scenery capitol Reef National Park, Henry Mountains, Circle Cliffs which are bordered by the thick trees of the Dixie national Forest.
